New Milwaukee Chalk Reels Promise “Longest Gear Life in the Industry”
Image courtesy of Milwaukee Tool Even though we rely heavily on chalk reels to properly layout components on a job site, we often don’t consider quality when buying them. If you have frustrations with broken gears and ripped lines on your past chalk reels, then Milwaukee Tool hopes to have a solution for you. With the introduction of their new Bold Line and Precision Line Chalk Reels, available February 2015, Milwaukee has promised the tool to deliver the “longest gear life in the industry.” “Current chalk reels available lack the durability that’s expected on the jobsite. Throughout our research, we saw countless broken chalk reels on jobsites – namely broken gears and ripped lines. Users repeatedly buy new chalk reels, leading to an immense amount of downtime and cost.” said Bobby Shaw, Director of Product Marketing for Milwaukee Tool. “Chalk reels are so widely used on the jobsite that they shouldn’t be looked at as a disposable tool. Through a never-before-seen gear system and proprietary clutch, we’ve set out to completely change the way users can expect to use their chalk reels, giving them the long-lasting durability they need to tackle all of their projects.” The Bold Line Chalk Reel is a 1.5mm braided line for more pronounced lines and the Precision is a thinner .9mm braided line for a more crisp line. Both versions are reinforced with a StripGuard Clutch that protects gears when the line is snagged or the user uses too much force. The braided lines of both reels also provide a lot more durability. Cool Tools: Industry First Cordless Braking Grinder
milwaukee tool Cordless power tools, revered for their mobility, are getting more powerful and useful in commercial settings every day, due to advancing technology. The gap is quickly closing with regards to power and useful life between corded tools and their cordless counterparts. Cordless tools also come with the added benefit of reducing trip and falls, as there’s no electrical cord laying on the job site. Milwaukee Tool has recently released the first to market cordless braking grinder, the Milwaukee M18 FUEL Braking Grinder. The M18 grinder is equipped with a rapid breaking feature that completely stops the blade in under 2 seconds, as well as a kick-back reducing clutch as an extra safety precaution. To reduce the fatigue of the user, Milwaukee has added an anti-vibration handle. “While existing cordless braking grinders are effective as cut-off tools, this product is the ONLY cordless solution that can effectively grind, cut and surface prep,” said Andrew Plowman, Director for Milwaukee Tool Corporation in a press release. By using an advanced Lithium battery technology, Milwaukee claims to be able to keep charge 4x longer and provide 20% more power. The grinder is also tool free, meaning adjustments can be made and accessories can be replaced without the use of a wrench by using a FIXTEC nut, keeping you productive on the job site. The M18 braking grinder is available as both a kit, which includes the grinder, (2) battery packs, (1) charger, (1) FIXTEC Nut, (1) T27 Wheel Guard, (1) T1 Wheel Guard, and a carrying case or as a bare tool. Milwaukee Announces Release of Industry’s Lightest Cordless Miter Saw
Milwaukee Tool In June, Milwaukee Tool hosted its annual New Product Symposium, which gave members of the media a sneak peak of the new products the red tool manufacturer would release the rest of the year. One of the highlights for us in the M12/M18 category was the ultra-portable and convenient 7 ¼” Cordless Miter Saw. This week, Milwaukee made the release of the new tool officially and announced a release date of September 2017. The 18V miter saw is currently the only 7 ¼” cordless miter saw that bevels both left and right (both up to 48 degrees). At only 28 pounds, the saw still packs plenty of power, as it delivers 5,000 RPM and can make around 600 cuts on 3 ¼” base board on one charge of the XC5.0 battery. Paired with Milwaukee’s new lightweight Miter Saw Stand, which weighs around 30 pounds, this is one of the most mobile saws on the market, which is great for interior remodels and trim installers. The sliding function allows users to cut up to a 2x8 at 90 degrees and a 3 ½” vertically. In lieu of a laser guide, dual LEDs on either side of the blade deliver a shadow line onto the material, which the company said is more reliable. We’re looking forward to testing its accuracy in the future. As a bare tool (2733-20), the M18 FUEL 7-1/4" Dual Bevel Sliding Miter Saw will retail for $399. Kitted with an SC 5.0 battery and charger (2733-21), retail cost will be $499. Milwaukee Tool Introduces First Hydraulic Driver, Promises Longer Life, Less Noise
One thing’s for sure about Milwaukee Tool, they aren’t satisfied with putting the same tools out new milwaukee tools Milwaukee Tool Introduces First Hydraulic Driver, Promises Longer Life, Less Noise Photo courtesy of Milwaukee Tool One thing’s for sure about Milwaukee Tool, they aren’t satisfied with putting the same tools out year after year. They’re constantly improving age old classics and leading in the innovation of new tool solutions. Their latest announcement is a variation on their extremely popular line of M18 tools. SURGE, as the new concept is called, uses a FLUID-DRIVE Hydraulic Powertrain for its power tools, as opposed to the standard oil-impulse options they offer today. It’s not the first hydraulic system on the market, but it’s great news for those already on the Milwaukee system. The first SURGE tool will be available in the form of a 1/4" Hex Hydraulic Driver. The new Milwaukee Tool M18 FUEL SURGE ¼” Hex Hydraulic Driver (2760-22) will offer increased durability and longer life, longer sustained torque, up to 3 times less vibration, and is around 50% more quiet than others in its class. The noise reduction is actually great news, because not only will it reduce hearing loss over long periods of time, but it actually drops the tool below OSHA’s requirement for hearing protection in most environments. That's also great news for occupants of buildings under remodel. One of the other important differences is in the torque. While many other drivers offer a peak torque of up to 1800 in/lb, the new SURGE driver sustains 450 in/lb, but that may not be a bad thing. “In our testing, users were blown away when we told them this tool had 450 in/lbs of torque because it is common for ¼” impact drivers to have up to 1800 in/lbs,” said Cole Conrad, Group Product Manager for Milwaukee Tool, in a press release. “The difference is peak torque vs sustained torque. In a standard impact, the tool reaches peak torque very quickly but only holds it for a brief period of time. With the longer sustained torque delivered in SURGE™, peak torque is reached faster and maintained for a longer period of time, allowing it to do the same amount of work at a lower torque rating (see graph below). The result is a superior fastening solution designed specifically for small to medium diameter fasters, which make up the vast new milwaukee tools 2016 milwaukee tool

Cool Tools: Milwaukee Expands M18 Fuel Series to Drilling and Driving Products
Just last week, Milwaukee released an industry-first cordless braking grinder as part of their M18 FUEL series to market and they’ve now expanded that to include drilling and driving products. The M18 Fuel series aims to provide the best performance of any cordless tools. To do so, Milwaukee created 3 exclusive innovations: the POWERSTATE brushless motor, which promises longer lifetime of the tool; the REDLITHIUM battery, which promises superior batter life versus competitors; and REDLINK Plus, which allows better management of heat output. As part of this release, Milwaukee now offers: ½” Drill/Driver ($279 kit, $129 bare tool | Home Depot) ½” Hammer Drill ($367 kit | PLATT, $TBD bare tool) ¼” Hex Impact Driver ($299 kit, $129 bare tool | Home Depot) 3/8” Compact Impact Wrench with Friction Ring ($TBD Coming Fall 2015) ½” Compact Impact Wrench with Pin Detent ($TBD Coming Soon) ½” Compact Impact Wrench with Friction Ring ($TBD Coming Soon) “The new Impact Driver and Impact Wrenches will also deliver faster driving speeds and more control than ever before. Now with a 4-Mode Drive Control™ that includes a new self-tapping screw mode on the Impact Driver, the user will have maximum control, reducing the amount of time spent slipping off of screw heads or stripping/breaking them all together. The M18 FUEL™ Impact Wrenches will also include 4-Mode Drive Control™ that includes an auto shut-off function that stops the tool after it senses one second of impacting to prevent overdriving fasteners and damaging materials,” Milwaukee said in a press release. All tools are available as a kit, which includes (2) battery packs and a charger, or as a bare tool. In October of 2015, Tool Reporting, which will allow tools to wirelessly connect with the platform to monitor use and performance, will be made available. New Milwaukee Work Gloves Allow You to Use Smart Phones and Tablets
Whether you like it or not (we LOVE it), technology is forcing its way onto the job sites, through the use of smart phones, tablets, and wearables. The problem is, it’s a hassle to wear work gloves and try to use your devices. Milwaukee Tool’s new demolition work gloves will not only solve the clash of work gloves and technology, they’re also not sacrificing durability to make it happen. With reinforced fingertips, palms, and thumbs, the new gloves provide strength and grip to the most used areas of your hand. The knuckles also have a protection pad to guard against scrapes and impact. Don’t worry about comfort, either, as the gloves are made out of a breathable lining and have a mesh backing that helps wick away sweat. The backs of the gloves are also lined with terry cloth to wipe the sweat off of your face. In order to use your touchscreen devices, Milwaukee has smartly installed a SMARTSWIPE Knuckle, which will allow your touch to be picked up by your device. It’s smart to use the knuckle, because you won’t smear up your screen with your dirty fingers. The gloves, which will be available in February of 2016 and will be priced at $24.99 Size Options 48-22-8731 (Medium) 48-22-8732 (Large) 48-22-8733 (XL) 48-22-8734 (2XL) milwaukee tool
Live Construction Site Video Feed Helps Wisconsin Contractor Catch Trespasser
surveillance camera Video feeds on a construction site are not only great for timelapse videos, they can potentially help stop intruders who enter your site. According to WISC-TV in Madison, Wisconsin, a construction site superintendent was watching a live video feed around 4 in the morning when he saw a man walking around his project’s job site. The superintendent was able to call the police, who later arrested the man for suspicion of criminal trespass onto a construction site and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bolt cutters were also found by police near the site. Sick of being ripped off, contractors across the country are using technology to stop thieves from stealing the tools and supplies. A contractor in Oklahoma used a GPS tracker he strategically placed on an air compressor to catch the person who stole it. Tool manufacturers are also getting more sensitive to the fact that contractors don’t like their tools to be stolen from them. Milwaukee Tool and DeWalt have both launched Bluetooth tracking devices and Bluetooth connected tools that can help locate their last known location and alert the user if someone is in range of their tools. If you want to get really serious about job site security, there’s also this all-in-one mobile lighting and surveillance system that has a 360 degree view of your site. It’s also motion activated and allows users to pre-record messages to scare the trespasser off. Full story: Live video catches construction site trespasser, police say | Channel3000.com
Milwaukee is Offering Free Service Upgrades to Any Tool That Does Not Fit Their New 12.0Ah Battery
courtesy of Milwaukee Tool Last week, Milwaukee Tool hosted their annual media event, the New Product Symposium (NPS), at which they offer sneak peaks of all of the new tools they’ll be releasing throughout the year. The biggest news of the show was the release of their new M18 12.0Ah battery, which uses new 21700 cells and is more powerful and efficient. Construction Junkie was at the event and I will be following up soon with a full recap of our favorite tool announcements. But, before I publish the recap, there was one thing that I thought deserved its own article. Since the release of the M18 platform in 2008, Milwaukee has pledged that their tools and batteries would be compatible with each other. Other brands like DeWalt and Hitachi (soon to be Metabo HPT) have introduced “flex” batteries, which offer higher voltage output but are also backwards compatible, but Milwaukee has stuck with the M18 platform for 10 years. The release of the new 12.0Ah M18 battery caused some logistical issues. The physical size of the battery is a good bit larger than their current biggest battery, the 9.0Ah, see picture below. Because of that, the new 12.0 battery will not be able to fit in certain tools. Size comparison between the new 6.0, 12.0 and the existing 9.0ah @MilwaukeeTool batteries.⠀ ⠀ #nps18 #nbhd A post shared by Construction Junkie (@constructionjunkie) on May 3, 2018 at 12:02pm PDT Well, the owners of those tools don’t have to worry about compatibility, because Milwaukee is offering free service upgrades to the following models that were manufactured prior to 6/1/2018: 2787-20, 2788-20, 2771-20, 2122-20, 2130-20, 2135-20, 2361-20, 2145-20, 2146-20, 2360-20.
