Construction sites are prime targets for theft, there are thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment and material at each location and cannot be manned 24/7.  In the past, if a thief was not caught in the act of stealing, there is little to no chance of your item being recovered or the person being caught.  Many contractors put cameras up on their sites, but even that only increases your odds of recovery slightly.

One Oklahoma City home builder was recently fed up with a string of robberies on his job sites, so he decided to do something about it.  Though he already had cameras set up, Pete Jackson, of Stonewall Builders, took site security a step further and put a GPS tracker on an air compressor, which was then stolen soon after.  Because of the device, the local police were able to track the location, find the criminal and charge him or her with a crime.  Jackson also got his expensive piece of equipment back.  Read the full story and see the video by clicking the link below.

DeWalt’s ToolConnect App and Bluetooth Batteries are Now Available and They Both Look Awesome
Aug 26, 2015

Back in early June, DeWalt announced the release of the first ever Bluetooth rechargeable battery, which would allow the owner to track performance and location of their inventory of batteries.  On many job sites, rechargeable batteries are the unsung hero of the job site, they give workers flexibility and mobility to work in remote areas of the job site, but are often abused and misplaced.  The ToolConnect app can alert the owner if a battery goes too far out of range, if it’s too hot or too cold, and even track the battery usage to keep workers productive.

New App Helps Contractors Recover Lost or Stolen Property
Jun 30, 2015

Contractors use a lot of tools and sometimes those tools end up getting lost or stolen.  It's widely estimated that 93% of stolen property is ever recovered and the vast majority of that is motor vehicles.  Many contractors never take the time to document the tools and equipment they buy, but now there's an app that not only makes it easy to document your company's assets, but also employs a crowd-sourced effort to help you recover the items.

There are a ton of tools on any given job site, which makes it close to impossible to be able to monitor where they all are.  Not much can hold up job site progress more than rechargeable batteries going missing or not being charged.  To solve that issue, tool manufacturing giant Dewalt is soon releasing a line of Bluetooth enabled rechargeable batteries.

Theft is a big problem on job sites and it’s next to impossible to lock up and secure all of the valuable items on a job site at all times.  According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), there’s about a billion dollars worth of theft each year in the construction industry alone.  ONE BILLION.  That’s a lot of money to just be walking off of the job site.
