Since Construction Junkie’s humble beginnings in early 2015, we’ve had the absolute pleasure of connecting with thousands of other junkies throughout the world, who all share the same passion for the construction industry as we do.  We hope that you’ve found our content throughout the past couple of years as equally entertaining as it is informative, because that’s one of our goals.  We want to get the construction industry excited to be in the industry and learn about the latest advancements in technology, tools, and safety, as well as covering the most important news topics.

[Infographic] Top 10 US States for LEED Green Building

It’s no secret that the United States dominates when it comes to LEED certified construction projects. The US actually has more total gross square meters and number of LEED projects than the the other top 10 countries combined, by almost 3 times, totaling 336.84 million gross square meters over 27,699 LEED projects! China, Canada, and India are ranked number 2, 3, and 4, respectively.

The US Green Building Council recently released their annual top 10 list of states for LEED construction in 2016.

Craftsman Brand Tools to be Sold to Stanley Black & Decker

Sears' iconic brand, Craftsman, is leaving the mothership and being bought by Stanley Black & Decker for around $900 million.  This announcement comes on the heals of Sears planning to close 150 Sears and Kmart stores nationwide this year.  The deal for the 89-year-old Craftsman brand allows Stanley Black & Decker to manufacture and sell Craftsman products in non-Sears stores.  Sears will also continue to sell the Craftsman brand in its dwindling retail stores.

UPDATE: Investigation Details on 2015 Mecca Crane Collapse That Killed 110

Last year, a devastating crane collapse killed more than 100 people and injured more than 200 others in Mecca, located in Saudi Arabia.  Reports indicated that, at the time of the collapse, the boom was erected approximately 620 feet (190m).

Report: Construction Related Deaths Increased in 2015

As the construction labor shortage rages on throughout the industry, there have been concerns of how overworked employees or undertrained staff may affect job site safety.  Although there’s no definitive proof that this problem is causing an increase in construction deaths and injuries, recently released Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data shows trends pointing in the wrong direction.
