Delft University

Back in late 2012, a team of Dutch scientists began work on a new type of concrete additive.  All concrete additives modify the physical properties of the concrete in some way, whether by making the concrete harder, set faster, or more resistant to cracking.  However, what the Dutch team set out to do was to make a concrete that was "alive;"

May 13, 2015 Shane Hedmond
OSHA

OSHA

Effective August 3, 2015, OSHA will release a brand new standard on confined spaces on construction job sites.  The safety organization hopes these regulations will prevent the roughly 780 major injuries and death that occur in enclosed and restricted spaces on the job every year.  Some typical hazards in such spaces include minimal access to exit the space if needed, air quality hazards and flooding or collapse of the area.

EquipmentShare

It was only a matter of time before someone created a group sharing platform for heavy construction equipment, and EquipmentShare has won the race to market.  Back in April we wrote a piece about a Purchasing.com survey that showed heavy equipment rentals were on the rise in the construction industry. One way to capitalize on that trend it to find a way to rent your company’s equipment while it’s just standing idly by.

Microsoft Windows 10

Microsoft Windows 10

Tablets are the latest hot ticket item in the construction industry, everyone either wants to or is using them, and we think that’s great.  The iPad and Android tablets have basically controlled the tablet market since its creation, and for good reason: Windows has failed to make their tablets friendly to app developers.  While Windows tablets are typically more powerful (see Microsoft Surface Pro 3) than its competitors and can run full versions of all the programs you use on your desktop and laptop (like Microsoft Office and, amazingly, Adobe Photoshop, the Windows app store is noticeably bare and keeps a lot of potential users away.
