Starting January 1, 2015, two key changes will be made to OSHA’s recordkeeping rule:
1. Changes to who needs to keep records and who does not. In the past, the list of partially exempt industries was based on the Standard Industrial Classification System and will now be determined by the North American Industry Classification System.
o Spoiler alert: if you’re in the Construction Industry, you still need to keep records.
o IF you’re in a different industry, directions on how to determine if you’re exempt are not can be found here.
2. Expansion of the list of severe work-related injuries that must be reported.
o Work-related fatalities must still be reported within 8 hours
o Work-related in-patient hospitalizations, loss of eye, and amputations must be reported within 24 hours.
