The Dell Venue 8 7000 is the first tablet with Intel's new Realsense Technology, which uses an array of three rear facing cameras to sense depth and distance. All of the information that the camera gathers is then embedded into the photo. This allows construction professionals to gather information and verify work in place in an all new and more efficient way.
This new technology will allow the Construction Manager to go on site and not only take progress photos, but also check for quality control. When referencing past photos you will be able to gather measurement information from them. The idea is that good photos will save you that extra trip to the job site or x-raying floors.
As this is new technology and the Dell Venue 8 7000 is the first ever tablet to include Intel's new hardware, there are still some bugs to work out. People that are using the device are saying that the Realsense Technology does not always work and the measurements are not as accurate as they should be. Also, the photo quality is poor, especially in low light situations. Right now, the Realsense Technology is only accurate to the inch, but future models hope to increase this accuracy.
The Dell Venue 8 7000 and Realsense Technology is not yet ready for the field but this is promising technology. The next generation of this tech will see the quality improve, and this will be the indispensable tablet for the future Construction professional.
