I’ve seen a lot of giveaway contests for tools over the past few years, including several that we’ve done one Construction Junkie, but the contest that Bosch announced this morning is one of the biggest ever. 2,000 people are going to be given the chance to win The Freak, which is Bosch’s two-in-one impactor that combines a ¼” hex impact driver and a ½” square driver impact wrench.
The contest officially began on August 21, 2018 at 7am Central Time and entries must be received by September 14, 2018. In order to enter, participants must post a short 30 second video on Twitter or Instagram explaining why they need a “whole new freak’n cordless platform and use the hashtag “#FreakNContest”.
The Impactor (model #IDH182), itself, features a maximum RPM of 2800, maximum impact rate of 3200 per minute, and a maximum torque of 1,650 in-lbs. There are 3 speed options with a variable speed trigger and an on/off button for the LED work light.
In addition to receiving “The Freak” , winners will also receive one of Bosch’s CORE18V 6.3Ah batteries, which features upgraded 20700 battery cells over their previous battery offerings. The CORE18V batteries also offer more power, longer runtime, and cooler operating temperatures.

For years, Milwaukee has made it very clear that they will continue to keep their M18 platform as their core system. Cordless tool users spend a ton of money into batteries these days, and the company’s goal is to not force them into investing into a new cordless system. That means that Milwaukee has to come up with innovative ways to provide the tools users want while being limited to 18 volts.
In 2015, Milwaukee announced the release of their digital tool tracking platform: ONE-KEY. The company has since released dozens of ONE-KEY enabled tools to manage them using Bluetooth, an inventory management system, and tool reporting functionality. Yesterday, the company announced several enhancements to the platforms inventory and reporting interfaces.

Late last year, CAT Phones released their first ever smartphone on a US carrier network, the S48c. The phone is currently available on both the Sprint and Verizon Networks and I was recently able to test out the phone to get some better insight into how it operates. Overall, it offers the toughness to hold up to a jobsite at a reasonable price, but continue reading to hear about all of the details.
It seems weird to be talking about new step ladder designs. Other than moving from wood to aluminum to fiberglass, the form and function of a stepladder hasn’t really ever changed. One of the biggest opportunities has always been the gap between how step ladders were designed to be used as opposed to how people actually use them. 3 major manufacturers now have a solution to at least some of those problems.
