It’s hard to believe that it has been 17 years since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.  I came to the realization this week that many of the men and women that are about to enter the workforce will never have a true understanding about how the country felt that day and how it responded. New York is still responding to this day and, even though the skyline will never quite be the same, there are new buildings in their place, which pay tribute to those who lost their lives that day.

3 years ago, EarthCam shared a timelapse video of 11 years’ worth of construction  of the newest tallest building in America: the One World Trade Center, which now stands near the site of the original towers. This year, EarthCam shared a new video, showing 8 years of construction on the new 3 World Trade Center, which now stands as 5th tallest building in New York.

The 3 World Trade Center is comprised of 80 stories and reaches 1,079 feet into the sky.  The video was made of almost 2 million images from May 2010 to September 2018. The building officially opened in June of 2018 and features 2.5 million square feet of rentable space and 150,000 square feet of retail on 5 floors.

Perhaps most importantly, the life-safety systems of the building far exceed New York City building codes. Its core is comprised of reinforced concrete with steel structures outside of the core.  The exterior cladding is made of an external structural steel frame. In addition to the safety standards, 3 WTC also achieved LEED gold.
