After acquisitions of PlanGrid, Assemble, and BuildingConnected in 2018, Autodesk used the next year to simplify and integrate those programs with BIM 360 and create Autodesk Construction Cloud. After taking a short break in acquisitions, the company is back at it again, but it’s a little different this time.
On Tuesday, Autodesk announced that they have made a minority investment into the privately owned software, Aurigo, which specifically focuses on owners of construction projects. While the terms of the deal were not released, this unity gives Autodesk a true end-to-end solution for construction projects, beginning at design and all the way through operation of the building.
For those unfamiliar with Aurigo previously, they currently have over 40,000 projects on their software, which has been used on projects totaling more than $300 billion. Their software serves industries, such as government, transportation, utilities, and repeat builders, like healthcare, higher education, hospitality, and retail. Some of their largest clients include DOTs in Massachusettes, Nevada, Iowa, and Utah, as well as the Public Works Departments of Las Vegas and Houston.
“Autodesk and Aurigo share the same confidence in the resiliency of the construction industry and our optimism for a full recovery,” said Andrew Anagnost, president and CEO of Autodesk, in a press release. “When the industry gets back to building again, infrastructure asset owners and private developers will have in their toolboxes the most sophisticated, integrated platform to meet their design, procurement, construction and operating needs.”
The move to invest in Aurigo is similar to a move made by software rival, Procore. In mid-2019, Procore aquired Honest Buildings, also an Owner-focused software, and later rolled it into a new product called Procore for Owners.
