It’s not often that contractors completely invent a new method of building high rises.  We’ve certainly seen some very interesting methods in recent projects, such as the “top-down” method that allows the sub and super-structure to be built at the same time, but a contractor in London has a new way to shave time off of the construction schedule of a high rise building.

How One US Contractor is Controlling Smartphone Use on the Jobsite and in Company Vehicles

As much as I like my smartphone, it’s undeniable that they can be a huge distraction on the job site or in a vehicle.  The construction industry is dangerous enough without these added distractions, so at least one US contractor has decided to proactively manage their employee’s smartphone usage.

Report: OSHA May Use More Drones for Inspections

Drones have been heavily used by the construction industry in recent years for anything from progress photos, to employee tracking, or calculating the volume of on-site stockpiles. Now, a report from EHS Today says that OSHA plans to employ more drones to conduct site inspections of employer facilities.

BuildingConnected is Now Integrated with PlanGrid For Seamless Doc Transition From Pre-to-Post Bid

As part of Autodesk’s late 2018 construction technology acquisition spree, the software giant gobbled up both PlanGrid and BuildingConnected.  The two acquired companies now form a large part of Autodesk’s Construction Solutions branch – and are now integrated with each other for a seamless document transition from the pre-construction phase to the construction phase.

Procore Launches New Product for BIM Users

OSHA Submits RFI for Revisions to Construction Silica Standard

Last fall, OSHA announced its intentions to explore updating the 2016 silica dust regulations that seemingly took the construction by storm.  Their intent was to gain feedback on additional dust control methods that would be suitable for hazard control, as well as on additional tasks and equipment not currently covered by Table 1 in 29 CFR 1926.1153. Last week, they announced the next step they’re taking towards revisions.

Most Companies Involved in FIU Bridge Collapse Have Agreed to Settle Civil Lawsuits, But There’s One Holdup

Almost 18 months ago, an under construction pedestrian bridge on Florida International University’s (FIU) campus collapsed, killing 6 people and injuring another 8.  While many investigations have closed, including OSHA’s scathing report, families of victims and survivors have been awaiting the results of civil lawsuits filed against the companies in charge of the projects.
