The best part of any construction job is making a mess. The worst part is cleaning up. With all the talk of robots entering the job site and doing all the fun stuff for us, why in the world have we not been pouring money into robots that will clean for us?! Makita may have answered our prayers, as Makita Japan has released an automated robotic vacuum that can handle the odd materials in your workshop or job site.
We all know that regular household technology can’t handle the various rigors of the construction industry, we require bulked up products, such as these bulked up rugged smartphones. Robotic vacuums are no different. Try to throw a Roomba in a room full of wood debris and watch that thing overheat and collapse.
Using Makita’s patented multiple 18V battery model, the Makita RobotPro Vacuum (model RC200DZ) uses two batteries and can cover up to 5300 square feet (500 square meters) on a single charge. Total square footage covered will depend on the size of battery you choose. The unit is equipped with several sensors to not only keep the vacuum on course, but also to keep it from falling off a ledge or tipping over. The debris container can reportedly hold 2.5 liters combined within a separate fine and course debris area.
Pricing is believed to be around $800 after being converted from Yen, which is less than iRobot’s most expensive model, the 980, which retails for $899.99. Although the Makita vacuum is only currently available in Japan, it’s a step in the right direction of autonomous jobsite cleanup.
What do think? Would you buy one of these if they were available?
